The Cricket World Cup is the “most awaited “ premier international men's sports event. The International Cricket Council (ICC) organizes the event every 4 years. It was first played in the year 1975. Eight teams participated: India, Pakistan Australia, Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand, the West Indies, and East Africa (composite team). In the beginning, the “World Cup” was called

 “Prudential Cup”.  It was because all the tournaments were sponsored by the insurance goliath “ Prudential Insurance”.

 In 1999, it came to be called as “ICC World Cup”.   It was the first permanent trophy in the tournament's history. Prior to that, different trophies were designed for each World Cup. ICC World Cup trophy weighs 11 Kgs with a height of 60 cm. The trophy has a golden ball placed above three silver stumps. The first three consecutive tournaments   took place in England. Initially “white” was the color code for the players. Since 1992 players are permitted to follow “colored” dress code. Now every country has a dress code for its team. Prior to 1992, “red” colored balls were used in matches. From 1992 onwards “white” balls are used in matches.

Stumpy, the Elephant is the official Mascot of ICC world Cup 2011 . This world cup 2011 is jointly hosted by 3 countries: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The official song of ICC World Cup 2011 is

The hosting countries of The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 would be Australia/New Zealand.
