Focus on web security in 2011

According the McAfee a cyber security company in the year 2011 hacker and malicious code writers will focus more on targeting the smartphones and social media.

According to experts, smartphones of today are not built to handle the virus attacks. With the current trend of creating the markets/stores for selling thousands of apps for various smartphones no one really knows what is really inside a app and there can be several apps which can open back doors for hackers and malicious users. The people should be made aware of how to interface with the internet on the smartphones like iphones or android phones.

People are willingly giving away their personal information on social networks. Cyber criminals can use social media  to find real name, age, date of birth and even the answers of security questions of a persons email accounts. The Name and Date of birth can be used further by criminals to find more details about a person and can be used against him/her.

One emerging problem of social media is people encoding the long urls in twitter and sending it to people and receiver does not know whats inside the url. People should be educated to these things so that they are aware of clicking such links from unknown sources. Spammers use these things to launch phishing attacks.Â
